Discover Your Potential

Let's Meet

Dr. Kristin Hernandez, DPT, FAAOMPT, Dip. Osteopractic, Cert. SMT, Cert. DN

After practicing as a doctor of physical therapy for nearly ten years, I created Align Physical Therapy, PLLC to provide my community with the highest quality, individualized care.  I believe deeply in treating the whole person and I will listen to your concerns and goals in order to create a customized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and feels accessible and realistic.

My treatments include a blend of manual therapy techniques, movement analysis and re-training, individualized exercises, and often incorporate guidance on stress management, nutrition and appropriate breathing techniques as necessary.  I will educate you to help you understand your body, your limitations, and your treatment plan.  Physical therapists are advocates for their patients, and often able to take time to teach, explore, and guide you through your healing journey more so than other medical practitioners.  I will collaborate with your healthcare providers (with your permission) to facilitate a cohesive treatment plan as needed.

Physical therapy is a partnership between a medical practitioner and a patient.  I view my role as guiding patients to understand ways to care for their body, while my patients' responsibility includes doing the work necessary to care for themselves.  I am dedicated to continuing growing, learning, and reading regularly in order to provide you the best, most up to date, evidence based treatment.  My educational background is as follows:

BA: Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College in 2005 with double majors of molecular biology and religion.

DPT: Doctor of Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in 2011.

FAAOMPT: Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.  This is a post-doctoral fellowship completed by less than 1% of all physical therapists in the country.

Dip. Osteopractic: Diploma in Osteopractic Physical Therapy which is a post-doctoral diploma focusing manual therapy and research.

Cert SMT: Certification in Spinal Manipulation which means moving the spine to elicit audible cavitation.

Cert DN: Certification in Dry Needling which is like acupuncture performed by physical therapists.

BFR: Certification in Blood Flow Restriction, an exercise technique that manipulates the body’s circulatory system with exercise to make strength gains faster than normal.

Vestibular Specialization:  a physical therapist who specializes in treating dizziness, imbalance, and vertigo.
